Kennebec River Float Trips

There is no better way to cover water and see the Maine wilderness than from the bow of a canoe. Maine Guided River Float Fishing offers a distinct advantage over wading: we can cover miles of river in a single day, putting your fly or lure in front of hundreds of fish that shoreline anglers simply cannot reach.

At Thibodeau Outdoor Adventures, we specialize in float trips on the historic Kennebec River. Whether you are a fly fishing purist chasing the elusive "Kennebec Slam" or a spin angler looking for a high-action day of Smallmouth Bass fishing, our canoe trips provide the ultimate combination of comfort, access, and adventure.

Why Choose a Float Trip?

Float fishing is the most efficient way to fish large river systems.

Cover More Ground: We drift between 4 and 8 miles of river per trip, accessing remote pools and runs that are inaccessible by foot.
Presentation: You control the boat speed to match the current, giving you the perfect "drag-free drift" for your fly or lure.

The Trout & Salmon Float

Starts at $500

This 8-mile stretch of the Kennebec River is steeped in history. Once the highway for massive log drives, the river bottom is lined with submerged timber that provides perfect habitat for big fish.

The Goal: This is one of the few places in the East where you can achieve the "Kennebec Slam" in a single day: catching a Landlocked Salmon, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout.

Details:

Duration: 8 - 10 Hours

Distance: 8 Miles

Inclusions: Lunch provided. Includes opportunities to stop, wade, or swim.

Logistics: Up to 2 anglers  (groups >2 requires a 2nd guide)

The Shawmut Section

Starts at $400

Prepare for a workout. The Shawmut section of the Kennebec is renowned for its high-volume Smallmouth Bass fishing.

The Numbers: It is not uncommon to boat 20 to 50 bass in a single trip. These river bass are pound-for-pound some of the hardest fighting fish in fresh water.

The Technique: This is a fast-paced trip. We cast topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics into eddies and behind rocks. The strikes are aggressive and frequent.

Details:

Duration: 4 - 6 Hours

Distance: 4 Miles

Experience: High volume / Fast pace.

Logistics: Logistics: Up to 2 anglers  (groups >2 requires a 2nd guide)
